Forklift Rental in TexasAre you looking for a forklift rental in Texas for your application? There are different scenarios where you need to rent. Is your forklift being serviced or repaired? Do you have an unexpected requirement for a forklift?

Or are you planning to buy a new machine for your business and you want to try it out first before making the purchase? If any of these situations apply to you, renting can be the right choice to make. Renting could also be the best option when the business is seasonal.

Renting has a lot of benefits than owning, well, of course depending on your situation.

Now that you already made up your mind that renting is right for you, here are some of the things you need to keep in mind before signing that important contract with the dealer.

Things to Remember When Renting a Forklift

Before you decide to rent a forklift, take into account the following to make sure that the transaction is smooth and you don’t forget anything:

  • You need a certified operator to operate the forklift, if you don’t have an operator, you can talk to the dealer about this, they will give you a rental forklift with the operator. The prevailing regulations for forklift safety don’t change even if the truck is rented, you still need to comply with standard regulations and one of it is having a trained operator.

  • You would be charged for any damaged occurred to the forklift while it is in your custody just as you would with a rented vehicle. Take care of it as if it is your own. You will sign a waiver attesting to care for the forklift and you will pay for any damage happened to the truck. This is a standard practice of the rental company.

  • Keep in mind that when the rental forklift is used in an application for which it was not meant for, it could cause severe damage to the truck, you as a renter will shoulder the cost of repair if something happens to the forklift.

  • Do your homework first. You need to make sure that the forklift you will be renting has the capacity and specification best suited to the work you are trying to be done. This is why talking to a dealer representative is the best way to figure out the technical specification for a renal forklift that you need.

  • When talking with the dealer about what you need, tell exactly the application you want to the truck to be used. The dealer will help you what model and type of forklift you need to get the work done. The dealer has the expertise to figure out the right forklift for your application. Just keep in contact with the dealer, they have a representative that would be happy to assist you.

  • The rental unit had been used and had been serviced or repaired, you as a renter must make sure that it is still in good operating condition. Before signing a waiver or contract with the dealer, make sure that the forklift you will be renting is free from any mechanical defect. You would not want to have a rental forklift that would break down and would not carry out the job to be done.

You also need to know the technical aspects of the truck you will be renting so that you won’t have a problem using that to the job at hand.

Technical Specifications of Rental Forklift You Need to Know

  • Know the height of the truck – the lower height could be the height overhead guard or of the mast assembly depending which is taller. You need to know and remember that so that the forklift you will be renting is properly size to fit in any doorways or rack bridges in your worksite that the truck needs to go through.

  • As a general rule when picking up a load, the forks should support at least 2/3 of the load to be picked up. You may need longer or shorter forks depending on the load. The forks should be properly sized for the load.

  • What fuel system you want for your rental forklift? Do you need an LPG-powered or diesel-fueled or an electric truck? As a general rule, an electric forklift is for indoor use while the diesel-powered forklifts are for outdoor application. If you rent an electric forklift, you need a charger, do you have this on-site? If so, do you have the right connector so that you can connect the battery to the charger? If you don’t have the charger, you have to request this from the dealer.

  • Know the load capacity of the truck. The forklift capacity could be between 3,000 up to 26,000 pounds. By knowing the capacity, you will know how much weight truck can lift and will let you know the load center of the load to be picked up. If the load center is further out of 24 inches (it means that the load is 24 inches away from the back of the fork space), load center decreases. The dealer will help with the calculation of the load capacity.

  • How high do you need to lift the load? Know the height you want the load to be lifted. As above 12 feet, most forklifts will start to decrease its capacity. Let sat for example if the rental forklift can lift 5,000 pounds, it can do that for about 12 feet, as it goes higher, it decreases in capacity, whatever that is. So better talk to a dealer about your height requirement for a rental forklift.

  • Make sure that the rental unit is properly sized in terms of being able to maneuver in the aisles of the workplace. It must be able to turn from aisle into another without hitting something.

  • Know the accessories and items that the rental forklift needs to have. Do you need a strobe light or a backup alarm or a headlight for dim and improperly lit worksite? Tell to the dealer the accessories you need for your rental unit to have in that way the dealer can equip the truck with that items to suit your application.

When Choosing a Forklift Rental Company, Consider These:

When choosing a forklift rental company, there are many things you need to consider to make sure you’re, here are some that could help you:

  • Find a rental company whose fleet is modern and still new, properly serviced and maintained. To make sure about this, pay a visit to the dealer and see for yourself that forklift equipment they have in the fleet, ask the staff how old their trucks are and how frequent the trucks are being serviced or maintained, you can also request for the inspection checklist and maintenance record of the unit you will be renting. It is not advised to do things over the phone, come to the dealer and personally inspect the unit.

  • Choose a rental company that offers delivery of the equipment to the job site so that you won’t have a problem bringing it on site. Some companies provide this as a free service depending on the distance of the destination.

  • Choose one with good customer support. You will never know when the forklift will break down on site, the dealer must be easily contacted for immediate repair or replacement. The loss of operation of one truck can put the business operation to a halt and it will remain that way until the repair is done or a replacement unit arrived on the site.

  • Find a rental company with its maintenance and servicing are included in the rental fee. Before you sign the contract, you have to ensure who will shoulder the maintenance liability. Who is responsible for that you or the dealer? You have to understand this.

  • Find a forklift rental company in Texas that is near where you are so that you won’t have a hassle picking up or returning the unit to them. To make searching for a company nearest to you convenient, above is the list of rental companies with corresponding address and contact info so that you can easily locate and contact them to make an inquiry.

  • Find a dealer with insured forklifts. Well, typically the dealer insures their units for an obvious reason. But you, as an individual or company, are responsible for the operator and the facility in case an accident happens such as injury or damage to property when using a rental unit.

Benefits of Renting Forklifts

Companies with large work scopes and with good financial standing often buy forklifts and other equipment they need for a daily operation to make the work completed faster and get it done on time. However, the are also companies that buying is not applicable to them. In this case, renting forklifts is the best option to make. Here are the benefits of renting:

  • You can test a new or a specific model of a forklift to check if it will work for your intended application before making the final decision of buying it. If you are a company requiring a large fleet of forklifts, trying out can benefit you big time as you don’t want to spend money on something that you’re still unsure.

  • If you have a short-term requirement, renting could be the best solution instead of buying a new one that could cost a hefty sum of money. The cost to rent can save you a lot of money.

  • Well, one of the benefits you can reap from renting is flexibility. You can rent a unit at any time you want, just go to the dealer, there you can sign an agreement, and you have the flexibility to change the truck if it doesn’t meet your application.

  • You don’t have to maintain it that would spell additional cost. If you purchased a unit, you are responsible for maintaining and safekeeping it. Over the course of a year or so, the forklift could break down and may need repair or maintenance, this could add up to your financial liability.

How Much Would It Cost You To Rent a Forklift

Now that we’ve covered the technical details and the benefits of renting, you may be asking, how much would it cost you to rent a forklift. Because the rental fee may vary depending on the dealer and the additional requirement you may need, the figures below are just an estimate.

The rental fee of a unit with a load capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 pounds would cost you $150-$200 daily, $350-$500 weekly, and $800-$1,000 per monthly.

A forklift truck with a load capacity of 6,000 to 10,000 lbs., the rental fee might be somewhere around $250-$300 a day, $500-$650 a week, or $1,300 to $2,500 a month.

The rental fee of a truck with a load capacity of 10,000 to 25,000 lbs. is somewhere in the neighborhood of $350-$850 per day, $850-$2,500 per week, and $2,500 to $5,000 per month.

The delivery charge (if not free) and the fee for an additional attachment that you need is not included in the rental charge.

To Finalize This

Renting forklift has increased its popularity in the past decades. A few of the reasons that contributed to the growth of forklift renting is the rising cost of purchasing such vehicle and an unexpected downturn of the economy that affects the financial status of a company which forces them to find an economical solution to save money whenever possible.

If you are one of these companies, you can find a forklift rental in Texas. Just discuss with the dealer about your requirements so that they can evaluate what type of forklift you need to have for your application.
